Welcome Race Fans is a collaborative project of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to connect visual art and artists to this historic race. One of the more familiar and iconic visuals associated with May in Indianapolis is the blanketing of the city with “Welcome Race Fans” signs and banners. Jessica Hancock’s original drawing “Black and White at the Finish” was a signature piece for the 101st Running in May 2017. The original drawing measures 6 feet by 4 feet and was exhibited at the Welcome Race Fans launch party and at the iconic Indy 500 pagoda. The work was purchased by A.J. Foyt IV in June 2017 and is on permanent display at the Foyt Wine Vault in Speedway, IN. The art was also reproduced and displayed on the glass of the Indianapolis Arts Garden, and printed on posters, banners, buttons, and a commemorative Indy 500 helmet.
